Despite the relentless rain and cold weather that leave refugee camps in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, Syrian refugees grapple with the harsh conditions, yet the resilience of the human spirit shines through. The inhabitants, especially the children, maintain a positive attitude. Even as the winds howl and the rain pours outside, their laughter echoes through their simple makeshift tent schools.
“They are not just poor refugees. If it's that kind of reporting, perhaps it’s best not to portray them at all. They are young people with a future. They have hope for the future.” — Yoshi, a dedicated Japanese volunteer in Bekaa Valley since 2014, who has founded a school for children.
According to the U.N., Lebanon hosts 1.5 million refugees, with a median income per person of 450,000 Lebanese pounds, equivalent to less than 30 US dollars per month.
